Instructional Resources for Library Instructors: Zoom Carts (Room 2509)

2509 Renovation Update

Instruction & Training Room 2509 (2nd floor, Mountain side) will be renovated starting April 12th, 2024 - May 3rd, 2024. During this time, requests from library employees to reserve 1312 for instruction needs during this period will still be received and responded to through the Library Instruction & Training Room Request Form. If it turns out that your instructional room request conflicts with a booking in 1312, we will try to accommodate your request in the Special Research Collections Seminar Room (3304). However, please keep in mind that SRC hours are limited, no food or beverages can be consumed in the Seminar Room, and there are no classroom laptops equipped in the space.

The renovation of 2509 is scheduled to take place from April 12th - May 3, 2024. When the renovation is complete, Teaching & Learning will be offering training sessions for library instructors on how to use the new equipment. The room will be outfitted as an active learning space, with clustered seating around digital displays that can project participant devices. The furniture was selected to easily enable transitions from clustered seating to orient participants to face a large 80-inch display on the south wall.

*Please note that information on this page will be updated after the renovation.

Why use the Zoom Cart?

Instruction & Training Room 2509 is temporarily equipped with one Zoom cart that allows you to project your presentation onto two TV screens for your in-person audience. The 2509 Taskforce is currently working towards permanent furnishings and equipment for the space. While the Zoom cart is not expected to be used long-term, instructors will be required to use the Zoom cart until the room has been fully outfitted. The 2509 Taskforce is still in progress to update the room and will provide an announcement once the project is completed.

For more information on using the Zoom cart for instruction, please reach out to Teaching & Learning.

*The Zoom cart can be used to bring in remote attendees. However, librarians are not expected to teach in a hybrid capacity. Library instructors either use the Zoom cart to teach an in-person audience or deliver instruction remotely. If you wish to use the Zoom cart to teach remotely, please get in touch with Teaching & Learning for assistance.

How to use the Zoom Cart

You can connect to the Zoom cart using either your laptop or the computer at the podium. If you have meetings for in-person classes, you can start the Zoom meeting using the podium computer or your laptop in the Instruction and Training room.

If you have hybrid (Remote/In-person) instructions, send your instruction Zoom meeting link to a T&L member; we will help you set up the Zoom Cart in the Instruction and Training room before your instruction sessions.

Watch this video to learn how to connect the Zoom Cart using the computer podium:

The directions between (2:58-3:35 mins) in this video are not updated to reflect the current Zoom cart setup in 2509. Please refer to the instruction setup guide below for the latest setup directions - Sept. 11, 2023.

Should you checkmark the "Open Zoom Meetings" box?

In the video, you will notice the Zoom download box when you first start a Zoom meeting. This box shows up if this is your first-time downloading Zoom on the podium computer. By clicking on the checkmark, you are allowing Zoom to automatically download the next time you start a Zoom meeting. You may choose to opt-out of this option by clicking on the open button without a checkmark in the box; the same box will pop up again the next time you start a Zoom meeting.
