This page details how to link to resources such as books and articles. For information on how link to databases, go to the Database List page of this guide.
We recommend linking to resources through UC Library Search. This allows the user to find more information and get access to the material.
If you are linking to free resources that are available to anyone without a subscription, you can link directly to them.
We recommend this option for linking to materials in subscription resources other than databases.
If you are linking to a resource through UC Library Search (e.g. an article, a print book, an ebook), you do not need to use the proxy in the URL. UC Library Search is public-facing and not behind a login. If you copy the permalink for that item, the user will find all the information about the item on the UC Library Search, including any links to access that item, which are already proxied.
Under "Use Proxy?" for the item, select "No."

See the LibGuides LibGuide page on Box Content: Databases, Books & Links for more details.
The best practice for accessibility is to open all links within the same window. However, there may be some scenarios where you want the user to open a link in a new window (e.g. the user is following instructions on your guide that will apply to setting up an account on another page). In those instances, you can set the link to open in a new window.
If you wish, you can warn users that a new window will open by adding this code in the Link Name field:
Below is an example of how this would appear for your users.
