Linguistics is the study of human speech including the units, nature, structure, and modification of language. Below are a selection of resources and databases useful for the study of Spanish and Portuguese, as well as Catalan. - Catalan Sociolinguistics: State of the Art and Future ChallengesThis book provides an account of the major topics dealt with by the study of the relation between language and society in the Catalan language community, and the extent to which international approaches have been received and how they have been adapted to the Catalan domain.

- Iberoamericana-Vervuert eBook CollectionIberoamericana Vervuert is a leading scholarly publisher in Spanish and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. The collection covers the history, literature, art, linguistics, and language of Latin America, the Spanish Caribbean and Spain. Most books are in Spanish, German, and English. Few are in Portuguese and French.
- Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts (LLBA) This link opens in a new windowCSA Linguistics & Language Behavior Abstracts (LLBA) assists both generalists and specialists in keeping abreast of cutting-edge developments in disciplines concerned with the nature and use of language. The database covers all aspects of the study of language including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. Complete coverage is also given to various fields of linguistics including descriptive, historical, comparative, theoretical and geographical linguistics.
- MLA International Bibliography This link opens in a new windowThe MLA International Bibliography is a subject index for books and articles published on modern languages, literatures, folklore, and linguistics. The database contains citations from more than 4,400 periodicals and 1,000 book publishers. Coverage includes journal articles, series, books, essay collections, working papers, proceedings, dissertations, and bibliographies. While the majority of records are from English-language publications, at least sixty other languages are represented. Also available as a separate database is the MLA Directory of Periodicals.

- Oxford Handbooks in Linguistics This link opens in a new windowThe linguistics area of OHO provides new essays on critical topics and emerging issues in the structure, use, and history of language. Structure is divided into phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and discourse. Language use encompasses sociolinguistics; psycholinguistics/neurolinguistics; and language acquisition by children and adults. The primary focus of historical linguistics is language change.
