Have a question?

Handling Materials

  • Your hands should always be clean, dry, and free of lotions or other contaminants before handling archival materials.
  • Nitrile gloves are available when handling images or negatives -- ask at the front desk
  • Slide viewers are also available by request
  • Researchers can bring one box or 5 books to their table at one time; return your box before taking the next.
  • Remove 1 folder at a time from your box -- ask the front desk for a box flag to mark your place
  • Keep folders and documents in the order that you found them
  • Do not remove staples or paper clips -- ask the front desk if the staples or clips need to be removed to properly view materials
  • If you have a question about how to safely handle an item, please be sure to ask!
