UCSB Reads 2013

The UCSB Library, in partnership with the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, is pleased to name Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything as the UCSB Reads selection for 2013.

Moonwalking with Einstein recounts author Joshua Foer’s journey as a participant in the U.S. Memory Championships, and his yearlong quest to improve his memory under the tutelage of top “mental athletes.” Drawing on cutting-edge research, a surprising cultural history of remembering, and venerable tricks of the mentalist’s trade, he transforms our understanding of human memory.

About UCSB Reads

“From the beginning, the goal of UCSB Reads has been to encourage a common reading and intellectual experience for our community and to stimulate discussion of important interdisciplinary issues. It unifies the campus and provides opportunities for our faculty to go out into the community to share their knowledge and expertise.” -- Gene Lucas, Executive Vice Chancellor

Now in its seventh year, UCSB Reads is an award-winning event that brings the campus and Santa Barbara community together in a common reading experience. Selections for UCSB Reads engage readers in intellectually stimulating dialogue about important issues of our time. A variety of UCSB Reads events, including faculty panels, book clubs, and exhibits, will take place throughout the winter quarter—on campus, at local public libraries, and at other local venues. These will culminate in a special talk by the author on March 4 in UCSB’s Campbell Hall.

We look forward to sharing this entertaining and enlightening work of literary journalism, and to the lively and thought-provoking discussions it is sure to elicit.
