LAUC-SB: Academic Review

Information on the Santa Barbara division of the Librarians Association of the University of California (LAUC-SB).

Academic Review

Librarians are academic appointees at the University of California and, like other academic appointees, are evaluated for advancement or promotion by a committee of their peers. All LAUC members participate in the peer review process. Librarians progress through the three ranks in the librarian series: Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, and Librarian. Librarians are evaluated on the basis of professional competence and quality of service rendered within the library and, to the extent that they are relevant, one or more of the following: professional activity outside the library; University and public service; and research and other creative activity. The review initiator evaluates the job performance of each librarian. It is the responsibility of each librarian to keep a record of all professional accomplishments and activities to include in their review file.

Resources

Librarians at UC Santa Barbara are either represented or non-represented. Represented librarians are in the collective bargaining unit and are covered by the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the University of California and the University Council-American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT). Non-represented librarians are not in the collective bargaining unit and are covered by the Academic Personnel Manual (APM).
