Government Resources

The following government resources were compiled by Shari Laster, UCSB subject librarian for government data and information, and law:

National Criminal Justice Reference Service Abstracts: The NCJRS indexes criminal justice research. Many reports are available as PDF full text. For others, use the “Find in a Library” link to locate a copy.

Bureau of Justice Statistics: The BJS provides summary statistics and analytical reports on topics related to criminal justice in the United States, including corrections.

California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation, Strategic & Performance Planning: Operational statistical reports from the CDCR.

United Nations Surveys on Crime Trends and the Operations of Criminal Justice Systems: While the primary focus of UNODC is on crime, the information collected in this survey also addresses criminal justice and corrections systems.

UN’s rules regarding the treatment of women prisoners: Provides insight into prison conditions around the world.
