ENGL 197: Climate Change and Humor

This course explores the surprising humor of contemporary literature and film about climate change. 

From comic horror to satire, surrealism, and absurdism, writers and directors use the traditions of laughter to explore the possibilities of understanding, imagination, playfulness, and engagement in relation to climate change.

Your final research essay or creative project must incorporate:

  • At least one literary work or film listed on the syllabus
  •  At least two scholarly research sources related to your topic that you have found outside the course e.g. an article or book chapter. 
  • At least one additional source of your choosing, from the syllabus or beyond: e.g. a book or film review, essay, photograph, another literary work, etc.
