Scope

This guide provides copyright and fair use information and resources for the UCSB community.  Coverage includes basic explanations of U.S. copyright law; the fundamentals of fair use and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act; University of California policies; FAQs; and useful resources. The guide contains information that will assist you in using copyrighted material thoughtfully and responsibly, while also encouraging you to exercise your fair use right.

Objectives

The goal of the guide is to educate the UCSB community about copyright law as it pertains to the legal use of third party copyrighted material within the academy, and to encourage you to exercise your fair use right.
