Catalog Search for Films (e.g. DVDs, VHS, )

Search:

  • Use ADVANCED SEARCH to locate videos held in the UCSB Library Media Collection.
  • In the LIMIT BY FORMAT field, choose Video/DVD to enhance your keyword or title search. (see image below)

Locate:

  • UCSB Library's circulating Media Collection is located on floor 2 Ocean side in Library adjacent to the Ethnic and Gender Studies Collection
  • The Music Library maintains a seperate non-circulating media collection
  • Some videos may also be located in Special Research Collections. The SRC is located on the floor 3 of the Mountain side of the library

View:

  • All public computers are equipped with VLC Media Player (which should be able to handle almost any DVD format or region).
  • UCSB Library maintains two TVs with VHS/region free DVD players, for individual viewing;
    • available on a first-come basis; inquire at the Services Desk
  • Music Library maintains its own viewing rooms;
    • available on a first-come basis
  • Contact Special Research Collections directly to arrange viewing of their video materials.

Ethnographic Video Online  (Alexander Street Press)

Volumes 1 and 2 contain over 1,000 hours of videos from several hundred DVD collections on Indigenous Peoples around the world.

A Netflix-like video streaming service covering feature films and documentaries worldwide. Search for Native Americans, Indigenous Peoples for a selection of titles.
