Census Data: Home

A guide to the information from the US Census Bureau.

Census of Population and Housing Overview

Conducted every 10 years since 1790, the latest Census was conducted during the 2020 COVID pandemic.

Printed summary reports are available for the United States, individual states, counties and cities. In addition, DVDs are available for use through the Government Information collection of the UCSB Library; these are useful for accessing and downloading large data sets.

Business and Economy Census Overview

The economic census provides a detailed portrait of the United States' economy once every five years (those ending in 2 and 7), from the national to the local level.

American Community Survey

The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing survey that provides vital information on a yearly basis about our nation and its people. Information from the survey generates data that help determine how billion of dollars in federal and state funds are distributed each year.
