Information for Faculty and TAs

Online Course Listening Request Form

Please contact Cathy Jones (jones@library.ucsb.edu; 893-2641), the UCSB Music Library supervisor in charge of online course listening, with questions about the service that are not answered by the guidelines below. You may also contact Temmo Korisheli (korishel@library.ucsb.edu; 893-2641) or Eunice Schroeder (schroeder@library.ucsb.edu; 893-3612), or call the music library at 893-2641.

Please submit requests for online listening via the Online Course Listening Request Form. You may print, complete, and send or bring the form to the music library, or complete it online, save, and send as an email attachment to Cathy Jones, Temmo Korisheli, or Eunice Schroeder. You may append additional comments as necessary.

Please submit requests at least two weeks before you plan to assign the listening. The music library processes requests in the order in which they are received. Lists that lack clear, complete, and correct information (such as CD call numbers) may be returned for completion and this may delay timely posting of your assignments.

Emergency requests will be processed in the order received but not to the detriment of requests submitted on time.

The music library may limit the type and number of listening items posted online based on class size and length of the selections. For small classes and seminars requiring lengthy selections such as complete operas, we will place required recordings on reserve in the music library.

The online course listening service is based on recordings held in the collection of the UCSB Music Library. We adhere to the Music Library Association’s Statement on the Digital Transmission of Electronic Reserves, which states that the library “should make a good faith effort to purchase a commercially available copy of anything that is provided by the instructor.” Therefore:

We will digitize from a commercial recording owned by a faculty member if a library copy is not available. A copy of the recording will be ordered for the library.

We will digitize from CD compilations provided by the faculty only when complete track listings and source information are provided so that we may purchase a copy of the material for the library, or substitute a library owned performance of the same items.
