A Message From the University Librarian

Welcome to the Davidson Library Addition and Renovation website. I am excited about all the changes ahead and for this opportunity to expand and upgrade the library facility.

This project will transform Davidson Library by adding new study spaces, better infrastructure, and more technology. Our goal is to design a space that will serve the next generation of scholars

Over the next year we will be sharing more information with you about this construction project. There are still many opportunities to get involved by helping us understand what you would like to see in your library

Thanks for your interest in the library. You are welcome to contact us with any questions.

What's Happening Right Now?

This Guide Has Moved!

We have moved this guide into our website and are updating it there.  Please visit the new site.

Fall Activities

Over the next month we will be shifting media (VHS & DVDs) and current periodicals to the first floor reference collection area. We will also be moving newspapers to the first floor, new books area.

Summer Activities

We've been busy this summer planning for the renovation. Several new walls have been constructed on the first and second floors. These will become temporary locations for several departments once construction begins. At this point however, these areas are unoccupied and will remain open spaces for studying.

Another big change was the relocation of the Science & Engineering Desk; it has been moved to the front of the Reference Office and renamed the Second Floor Help Desk.

You'll also find that we moved some furniture around on the first and second floor. Our goal is to keep study spaces and library print collections accessible for as long as possible.

Looking ahead at the Fall Quarter we don't anticipate any big changes. Check back here for the latest information about the project.

We are currently working with UCSB Office of Planning and Design along with Pfeiffer Partners Architects to finalize the building design and related infrastructure. Construction is scheduled to begin Winter Quarter 2012, so there will be many changes within Davidson Library starting Summer 2011.
