Research Data Management: Repositories

This guide provides information about managing research data in any discipline.

Repositories

Data repositories provide a place for researchers to archive and share research data after completion of a project.  Discipline-specific repositories are typically customized to accept data types and address archival needs specific to a subject area.  Several websites provide a list of repositories by subject area (see below).

Dryad Data Repository

Dryad Data Repository is a new self-service research data publishing service for campus; Dryad provides UCSB researchers with user-friendly tools to upload and describe their data for access and reuse and to create citations and persistent identifiers for each dataset. Dryad is free for affiliates of UC Santa Barbara with a UCSB NetID.  A personal ORCID identifier is required to deposit data in Dryad. Visit the ORCID site to obtain one.

ONEShare

ONEShare is a free, open data repository that allows anyone to deposit research data.  It is a DataONE member node, which means datasets deposited in ONEShare are indexed by DataONE and made available for discovery and use by the public in the ONEMercury search interface.

General repositories

Figshare
