Book Industry Study Group Standards
The Book Industry Study Group (BISG) has a number of standards and best practices committees (BISAC). They have developed standards for book barcodes and labels, classification, digital book content and commerce and metadata.

IEEE publishes standards for communication, computers and electronics, electrical devices, power generation (including nuclear energy), medical devices, learning technology, transportation, and testing information and measurement. UCSB users can access the full text of IEEE standards here. Standards may be browsed by industry, or standard number, or searched by keyword.
 
Library of Congress Standards

The NFPA creates standards for fire prevention, storage of flammable materials, fire extinguishers and the like. All their standards, including both current and earlier editions, may be viewed free of charge at their website - registration is required for free viewing.
 
National Information Standards Organization *FULL TEXT*
National Information Standards Organization (NISO) creates standards for the information industry, including publishers and libraries, on a wide variety of topics, from data interchange to the format of book title pages. Most current ("published") standards are available as free PDF files.
 
Z39.50 Maintenance Agency
This division of the U.S. Library of Congress provides information pertaining to the development and maintenance of Z39.50 (existing as well as future versions) and the implementation and use of the ANSI/NISO Z39.50 protocol.
